Hi, I'm 17 and I was wondering how do you tell apart period cramps from a stomach-ache? Because sometimes I'll get stomach pains and I can't tell, therefore I don't know the best way to treat it, eg. whether to take anti-acid tablets and not eat for a while or to take paracetamol?

It always puzzles me. Thanks.

A reader, anonymous, writes (14 November 2008):

Period cramps are much lower down, where your ovaries are, than gastric ones, which is where your intestines are. Paracetamol I think would work for both to some degree anyway.
