 There's no surefire way to weed out the lesbians and homosexuals from a crowd of people.
Some lesbians don't fit the stereotypical butch profile, dressing in men's clothing with short boy hair cuts. You have your lipstick lesbians who look like any other girl. Most gay guys I know look straight as a board.
If you want to know if someone is gay then you're going to have directly ask them, or get to know them well enough to make your own judgement.

get to know them as friends and as you get closer see if you start to have sexual feelings, if you do then start getting closer like hugging and stuff. the easiest way is if it feels right when you are close to a girl is to kiss her. if she feels the same she'll kiss you back or may even kiss you first. how ever be prepared for rejection just in case; or be prepared for a brief freak out but at least the action shows how you feel. it may take time to adjust. good luck! hope it all goes to plan :) xxx

 Seriously? How can you possibly know for sure that you're lesbian at your age? Considering I know people who only found out when they were in there 30's.But okay, if you're sure about this, of course you can't tell whether someone is gay by looking at them, if you like someone talk to them, you could casually bring the topic gays/lesbians up, and see how they react. Although I don't recommend talking about it the first time you start a conversation. Try becoming friends with this person first, if she doesn't turn out to be gay, you could keep a close friend instead, which isn't so bad either is it? But if people in your town aren't open about it, that complicates things of course. Again, most people only find out their sexual preference later in life, so you might meet your soulmate eventually.Give it time, you're still young, you can't hope to find the love or your life so soon can you? And besides relationships that start in high school rarely last.
