Hi. Well that's good that you are friends.
As you start learning about each other - interests, likes and dislikes, music, books, movies etc., you will gradually build a good rapport. And that's really important to any new friendship.
Then over time, you will probably see some chemistry between you starting to develop.
In the meantime though, don't try to move things forward too quickly, and just let things flow naturally and see how it all pans out.
There's no need to rush.

Hi there. It seems fair to say, that he is smiling and looking at you for a reason. Because he probably does like you.
And the next question is, do you also like him?
If you do like him also, then start talking to him and making a friend of him. See where it takes you.
Start by saying "Hi" or "Hello", whenever you see him at school and perhaps - "How has your day been so far?" Then see what he says, and it will probably result in a conversation.
It's clear that he likes you, or he wouldn't smile or look at you the way he does. So he's broken the ice, hasn't he?
So now, he's probably thinking the exact same thing, and wondering if you are also interested in him.
So start talking to him, and beginning by saying "Hi" or "Hello", and with a warm friendly smile, and see how it goes.
You have nothing to lose. Try it.
It all starts by being friends.
