If he wants you for more than just sex, he'll get to know you, what you like, what you want from life and he won't just try to get you into bed at the end of the evening, and will understand if you tell him you're not ready for sex yet. If he wants sex, he'll try hard to get you into bed, and if you say no, probably won't bother with you again. My advice is to take your time getting to know a guy. The good ones will stay and work hard for your attention, the bad ones will just wander off.
