How can you know if a guy indeed likes you or just wanted to make fun of you?

how can you know if a guy indeed likes you or just wanted to make fun of you from the first time he started talking to you? if he showed almost all the possible signs he's into you,let you insult him and kinda put him down in front of his best friend and other people more than twice and still acted nice,like nothing bad ever happened,not even insulting you back,does it mean he likes you?please answer.
