reader, anonymous, writes (9 September 2010): I'm not sure how to tell you to overcome the problem, but I'll say that it's always been my thinking that being best of FRIENDS first is the better way to a stronger relationship. You two already know all of each others' quirks, likes, dislikes, etc., and you still LIKE each other. How cool is that?
I'm sorry I can't give you any real advice. Just wanted to share my vote for option 2, because being in love with and being loved by someone who's also a friend is tops in my book.

just keep going, when you do make the transition from friends to boyfriend and girlfriend the closeness and love will be worth it.
