Don't worry about the pain, as Mistify said, that's normal when you first start having sex. Eventually things will get better.
But even if you've been having sex for awhile, it can still really hurt if you're not "in the mood." That's the whole point of foreplay - it's supposed to get you excited enough so that your body can prepare itself for having sex (opens a bit wider, and creates a natural lubricant.) So if you've been skipping foreplay/haven't done it for a long enough time, then your body wouldn't have had enough time to prepare, and it can still really hurt.
And yes, always use a condom.
Good luck!

It is normal for sex to be painfull for a couple of times when you first start having it.
You are wise not to want to try without a condom. Yes - the condom might cause friction, but there are ways around this.
You can find a lubricant at most supermarkets and chemists. Try this for a while until your body gets used to it. It adds to the fun.
Good luck
