The whole time we have been talking he has given me compliments like, "you have a cute voice" or when i told him my nickname that everyone calls me he said "I dont like it, I like your name." Then online one day he gave me his number and told me to text him. The one thing that bugs me is that we talk through texting but never seem to have a conversation at school/in person. Of course when we walk by eachother he says "Hey, how are you" and greetings like that, but I'm not sure if he likes me or just wants to be friends. Any tips on how I can become closer to him and figure out if he actually likes me?

I think that you've got an interesting problem here. In my opinion, he's either A) too shy to talk to you and be really social in person, and he's more comfortable texting and IMing and such, or B) he just wants to be friends. As a guy, I think the best way to go about it would be to test the waters a little, try to be more social with him, flirt a little. If he's a shy sorta guy, he'll probably respond to that, feeling like you made a move will make him more comfortable with doing likewise. And if he's just not interested, then you'll probably be able to tell.
Being a shy guy myself, it's sometimes kinda hard to get your feelings across, so if the other person shows interest, it really helps.
Peace,
Kodi
