I met a great guy an we dated for about 3 weeks. Now we communicate long distance over text message and facebook, but I don't know how to initiate conversation, or what to say to keep in touch. We both promised we would stay in touch, but I personally don't know what to ask without sounding to clingy.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (14 August 2009):

How seriously did you each take the 3 weeks that you were together? And are you looking to develop this into a true relationship? I had a similar situation - I met my current boyfriend almost a year ago when i made a week-long visit to my sister at her university (he is one of her housemates), but we started talking longdistance via text and msn as soon as i got back home.

Treat it as you would any other relationship, or friendship - we started just talking occasionally about each others days, likes, dislikes, getting to know about each others lives and once we both knew that it was going somewhere we just set aside a couple of hours in evenings to talk to each other.

If you feel comfortable enough with him at this stage, let him know that you're missing him but are scared of coming across as too needy; then you can both be on the same page and you'll have some guidance. :)

Hope everything starts to unfold as you would like it to, good luck :) xx
