I needed some advice, I try to make myself feel good by buying new clothes, makeup etc. but I just feel that nothing ever looks good on me, I become fussy over the clothes and often just return them. I'm a size 10, but I just don't think I look good like other people do. Why do I feel like this ?

Exercise. Although most people will tell you to do aerobic exercise, and it is great, but the biggest bang for the buck, in my humble opinion comes from lifting weights. Don't worry you won't get huge and bulky, but you will find that its very slimming and causes clothes to fit much better. Also it takes less than 2 hours a week, where aerobic exercise requires a much bigger committment. The other benefit is that working your body physically certainly helps to make you feel and look better.

Attitude. There is nothing sexier or more fun to be around than someone with a great attitude. You have the choice as to what you think, so think fun, think sexy, think joyful.

Good Luck.

A female reader, Beckto United States +, writes (15 June 2007):

Beckto agony auntA good way to start feeling good about yourself? As Jess and Yummy said, it's a low self-esteem. There are larger people who are over-weight who still feel that they are beautiful. (And because they feel that way, they are beautiful...)

It's a tough world we live in for larger people. Magazines, t.v. commercials, etc can all make us want to starve ourselves. Don't let that get to you!

What might help?

Don't focus on how you look for a while. Go volunteer and get your mind off of it even for a little while. I promise you, if you sign up with some organization such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America, for example, or even at a soup kitchen, you will feel so amazing about who you are.

In such a materialistic society we live in, it's easy to forget about what the really important things in life are. Take the scope of your life off your looks and put it on what good things you can do in the world.

Hang in there.

A female reader, YummyMummy United Kingdom +, writes (15 June 2007):

YummyMummy agony auntIt called low self confidence hunni and everybody has something about themselves they hate.

I atopped eating through my teens and lost a lot of weight because I wanted to be a size zero like all the celebs. I did myself more harm then good and it has taken me many unhappy years of trying to put weight on.

I have the same hang ups about clothes. I'm a size 8-10 and don't think anything suits me apart from jeans and skinny tshirts. Things are a little different at the moment as I'm pregnant although I have the pregnant clothes hang ups aswell.

I tend to take my mum or my partner shopping for clothes with me. I have to bribe my partner but I find that him and my mum are the most honest, without being hurtful about what suits me although there are times I don't believe them.

I used to bag all my clothes up because I thought nothing I owned used to suit me. I ended up feeling completely insane and went to talk to someone about it, amoung a lot of other things.

Hope this helps

JessIzFit agony auntHeya hun,

Maybe it is because you have low self esteem. I know many people who have this but it is easy to over come this. Remember that every1 is beautiful in their own way and even if clothes don't suit you it doesn't make you not look good.

Just be yourself and wear what eva you like, regardless of what people think and enjoy it. Go mad, ruff up your hair, or just try to find a style that you like. experiment a little but believe me the right style is not that far away =D

Hope i helped and mail me if you need any more advice,

Louise
