Most of the time my family or close friends preface things by saying, "Now don't get upset, but...." and then they tell me. I feel bad because they have to say this or may not tell me things so I don't get upset. I also take things personally, like when others say something towards me, I get offended or think I've done something wrong. How can I stop taking things so personally? Reply to this Question Share |

Hi sweetheart
Sometimes we are just us and made a certain way, You are a very caring person so get upset very easily..I no someone else that used to and still can be like that ( Mmmmm ME :) You probably take things to heart because to care so much and because you need a little more security and belief in yourself..There also may be times when you just feel fed up full stop and if someone says anything you take it to heart because of the way you are already feeling..They dont know that and thats when its hard.....Now over the years getting me strong has been a truely great experience because sometimes when people get strong they can also get nasty and hard hearted and bitter...And thats what we dont want we just want to be a little less sensitive and a little more tough to certain things around us but keeping our kind hearts.....Work on your inner self I will send you some links to help you start believing you can get stronger not taking so much to heart and believe me when I say I have become the stronger of my siblings and probably the stronger of my whole family...There is hope love :)

You need to build up your self-esteem. There are lots of web sites and books on the subject. There are also lots of different methods, you will need to do some research into which ones might help you. Counseling is also an option to consider. Low self-esteem can affect one's life in so many ways and none of them good. So get busy, you won't regret it.
