A female , anonymous writes:

I took birthcontrol pills for 4 years. I stopped taking them about a three months ago or so. Me and my husband have been trying to have a baby...I know that the hormones of birthcontrol pills remain in the body for quite some time after you stop taking them, my question is, what can I do to get them out of my system or what can I do to speed up the chances of getting pregnant?

A female reader, Wendyg United Kingdom +, writes (21 June 2006):

Wendyg agony auntI dont think you can get the pill out of your system by doing anything, We are all different. Some fall straight away after they stop taking the pill, others can take a year! It depends on the person. It can take couples that have never taken the pill a couple of years to fall pregnant so it might not be the pill thats the reason. Try to have sex on the days that you are ovaluting this will increase your chances, if your periods are now back to normal after coming off the pill this will be easier to do. You can buy something called Persona which will tell you the most likely days that you are to concieve and this may help. Also believe it or not the harder you try at times the less easy it is to become pregnant. My cousin tried for ages and had almost given up ... then all of a sudden because she wasnt worrying about it she fell pregnant! If you smoke cut down, same for your partner this reduces the chances, as well as drinking. A diet can also help, so maybe pop along to your doctor and ask for some advice on the best way for you to concieve.

Relax a little, you havent been trying that long, it will happen when the time is right.

Take care
