A female age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend suffers from OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.)i love him so much but sometimes it gets really difficult between us. Take two nights ago, for example, he called me saying that he doesn't deserve me, that he's a loser and that the world would be better off without him. He kept wanting to put the phone down, but I was worried that he would do something stupid so I wouldn't let him. After a while, he said that he would call me back in half an hour but he didn't. He hasn't spoken to me since then and I'm really worried. I dont think he's done anything stupid but he really doesn't have anything self confident. I've been reading up on OCD to see what i can do to help him. Does anyone have any ideas?

DrPsych agony auntMany people with OCD have very poor self confidence brought on by this crippling anxiety disorder. There is a high rate of co-occurrence between mood disorders (depression) and anxiety disorders (such as OCD). I would say there is only one thing that you can do to help him. Encourage him to seek professional help and offer a supportive shoulder to cry on while he goes through treatment. I would say that most people who talk openly about suicide are actually crying out for help, but this young man obviously needs professional help and your relationship with him maybe a vehicle for that to happen since it gives him something to work towards a better future for.

kellyxxx agony auntThis doesn't sound like ocd, you haven't mentioned any symptoms. What you have described sounds more like depression. Let me know if I'm correct in saying this, otherwise describe the actual symptoms of the ocd. X
