A female Canada age 41-50, *lexi writes:

I met my ex husband when I was 16. Back then we both dreamed about having lots of babies when we were older. When we got o older he started to give me excuses why it wasn't the right time yet and even went as far as to tell me that if I were to get pregnant "by accident" he would leave me. We ended up getting divorced....no kids. Am I naive to want to meet a man who will WANT to settle down and have babies with me. I don't want to have a baby out of sex , I want to make a baby out of the love that I share with a man and because we BOTH want to bring a child into the world. A girl from work who is 40 now told me that I am naive and too honest and that this kind of attitude is the reason why she doesn't have any children yet. I am 34, do I still have time to have my dream or is this kind of fantasy only realistic when we are very very young?

Plexi agony auntThank you both,

I actually did look into freezing my eggs after I talked to my 40 year old friend and found out that it is aprox $15,000 plus $500 per year to keep the frozen. I feel that options like this are for women who chose to wait and perhaps focus on their career and thus can afford to do this. It was not my choice not to have babies, it was my immature ex husband who kept pushing the idea away. I am not a rich woman and even if the procedure was free I don't feel that I am financially secure enough to raise a child on my own. Yes, I do have to keep trying to meet more men until I do find one who wants the same as me. I know that adoption is also an option or even better yet I might meet a man who already has a little one from a previous relationship and who will allow me to be a mother to his child. I guess I've just been meeting selfish men lately who I would never consider having babies with and also my friend from work kind of scared me when she warned me that if I wait too long I might end up like her:(

Thanx again.............I won't give up, I promise!

There are men out there who want to settle. You have to work through them and fine one. However, as a back up, it might well be worth having your eggs frozen to ensure that if you don't find a guy, you may well still have a kids. there are guys who do want children, all around your age and maybe older or younger.

You are surely at peak for finding a guy your own age who wants kids!!! I guess it's hard because you can't approach someone and ask if they want kids before you persue them!!

Would you consider being a single mum? And using solo IVF type methods?
