I'm having trouble thinking of one for my bf because he has the most god awful name (Rudolfo...but he goes by Rudy. His granddad and his dad have the same name so it's a kind of family name xP) thanks to his parents. I'm having to resort to Google and I haven't found any cute ones that won't embarrase him completely!! HELP!!! Reply to this Question Share |

Reading some old texts and what not. Anyway it's sweetbaby because even though he doesn't want to admit it he is sweet. I just texted him and used it and he said he wasn't sweet to mess with me and when I told him he was he said, "Only to you babe." :)

Last night I just did some soul searching of all the time we've spent together and without thinking of one, it just came to me.

what's so bad with just calling him Rudy?
or, just "honey" or "sweetheart" or the other common terms of endearment people use for each other.?

I love him for him and we've been together for 4 years. My friend gave her bf that name as I think she thinks he's cuddly like a teddy bear?? I don't know. He does have a nickname for me, it's not exactly cute, but I still love it.

hmm, the other posters are right, you can't suddenly just pick a random name and start calling him that. And a load of 'stereotypical ones' are too sappy in my opinion. I call my boyfriend Puppy because he kinda reminds me of a spaniel, and he calls me kitten :) When we tease each other we call each other all the soppy ones like dear, darling, sugar, honeybunch etc. :P I know one girl friend calls her boyfriend bear. it's just something that will happen naturally. Me and my ex didn't have any at all :P
your friend must have a reason why she calls her boyfriend that. why not ask her?

His nickname is Rudy.... a nickname is short for your real name.
What you seek is a PET name that just you use for your boyfriend... you can't force it... it will happen...
My first husband and I were "snuggle bunny" for each other... don't remember how it happened...
my current husband's nick name for me is Critter.... and that's because of something that happened once early out dating and he said I was all "critterfied" about something... it was cute... it became "critter bug" and finally just "critter"
his nickname is "keeper" because one day I said "oh you must be the critter keeper"
see it evolves... you can't force it...

You can't just think up a nickname for someone, nicknames kind of happen if they will. Also what you are thinking of is a pet name, different from a nickname. Rudy is his nickname. You don't need a pet name, they always sound forced and weird to me. I personally would gag a bit if I heard someone call her boyfriend "darebear."

Whenever a girl is in a quandry for finding a cute nickname for her boyfriend, I offer the two best ones I know: "Hunchy-bunchy" or "Studmuffin"
Surely, one of those will work for you and Rudy....
P.S. Does he have a cute nickname that he calls you? I can offer him a couple (of nicknames), too....
Good luck....

I would be proud to have a name which has come down the generations. It's not a bad name at all. Just because it isn't your taste doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it. Moreover, if you have to resort to google, as you say you are, or ask strangers on the internet, you are obviously not going to come up with anything original or from the heart, so it is highly unlikely to be any better than this guy's actual name.
Have you told your bf that you think his name is god awful but that you think something the lines of "darebear" is adorable?

I know a guy with a middle name Rowdy. Most people know him by that name. Apparently in high school he earned it pretty well. He is much quieter now.
