Hi Chris,

Unfortunately the aunts and uncles that challenge the date of your religious church are right. If you cannot accept others opinions about your beliefs, it is unlikely that you and your mother can have a mature debate about this. I know you asked for help, but one of the best ways to get your mother and other people on your side is to allow rational mature debate, rather than saying, no comment allowed if it disagrees with your beliefs. Jesus was named "King of the Jews", the early church did indeed start with the apostles, but it is debatable as to if they called themself anysuch thing as a "apostolic church". As far as I know, the early fathers were against organised religion, and so was jesus, as the four gospels show. You are protective of your church, but there is no need, at the end of the day, all Christians believe in God, and God needs no protection from man or boy. Remember even Jesus had his doubts at times, so to question should be a backbone of faith.

lexilou agony auntI agree wait until you are old enough to go to church without their permission but practice your religion privately for now. Religion is scary to non believers and your mom is just worried about you getting into something she really doesnt understand. You will always face prejudice from some when you choose to follow any religion x

Speaking in tongues is actually a gift from God....never feel ashamed of your religion....God was a Christian...and he loved the sinners...your parents must see that you are happy and that you still love God but you chose a different religious path to them...but that as Christians they should accept you no matter what!

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (2 August 2008):

Well speaking in tongues is a bit out there so I can understand why they might be scared of it but it is your choice which faith you follow.

Could you perhaps stay at home and worship on your own for a while? Until you are old enough to leave the house without permission? There are plenty of teachings and sermons on the internet and books you could get out of the library.

You have to respect your parent's wishes. I am sure your religion tells you that. So although you can talk to them about how being apostolic is different than being say catholic or anglian, and educate them about it, you have to stay at home if they say so.

Good Luck!! xx
