How can I choose a birthday card for my boyfriend? His parents do not know about us, so I don't want to hint at love.

I have been trying to pick a birthday card for my boyfriend and it is proving difficult. He lives with his parents but hasn’t told them we are together yet because he wants to see how long it takes to suss us out as they have been trying to get us together (either that or he’s embarrassed about me but I don’t think he is). Obviously then I can’t get him a card that states ‘boyfriend’ on it. Most other cards for partners mention ‘love’ alot but since we have only been going out for 3 weeks, it seems too soon to be sending cards like that - and I don’t want to scare him off! I want to get him a card that strikes the right balance - that tells him how special he is without going over the top. Any suggestions on an appropriate card.

anon2907 agony auntHey,

If your relationship is special to you both then any card from you will be meaningful to him.

Instead of the usual lovey-dovey card, why not go for a funny card and get him a gift that shows how you feel?? That way you get to send the card and then the gift is something he can have from you but which doesn't say it's a gift from you as his girlfriend. Does that make sense???

You could get him a piece of jewelery or an item of clothing, so that when he wears it - he thinks of you.

What do you think?

Good luck with it,
