How can I beat an obsession with my first love?

Question - (2 March 2008) 1 Answers - (Newest, 2 March 2008)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Well, here's the deal. there's this kid. I met him in pre-k and he was, I guess you can say, my "first love," like you see in the movies.

I even have a picture with him kissing me in pre-k. then, last year, in my middle school, I found out he went there. I was in 7th grade, he was in 8th. and then 1, 2, 3, bam, I got super obsessed with him. I like, knew his address and his entire schedule and I would say his name every 5 seconds and I didn't even have the guts to talk to him in person.

I did talk to him by instant message. Anyhow, so then, suddenly, he got a horrendous girlfriend right before the end of the year. I went into meltdown and even contemplated suicide. here I am, a year later, he's been with his girl for 10 months, and there's not one day that I don't think about him. I try to see other people, but I can't seem to forget about him. I know, this is long, but heeeelp!

A female reader, Honey Sweet United Kingdom +, writes (2 March 2008):

Honey Sweet agony auntI hate it when something like that happens!

Firstly, be happy for him as a friend too.

If anything between them happens like break up, you can tell him there.

If you tell him in private, even if he has a girlfriend, it makes you feel alot better and sometimes you feel like a huge weight has been lifted. Maybe your obsessed with him because you havent told him and need to open up.

I hope this is good advice
