A female United States age 26-29, anonymous writes:

I dated an immature way too old for me jerk for six months two years ago and had again during the summer. The only reason i went back to him was because i was afraid i wouldn't find another guy. I make straight A's and try my best to be nice to everyone, but during middle school i thought being goth would make me interesting. All it did was get me a bunch of nasty rumors and people thinking i'm weird, its a small town so everyones opinion about everyone is pretty much set. I got sick of being made fun pf so i abandoned goth and stopped hanging out with the goth people in school, they were immature jerks with no forsight anyway, and i began hanging out with my old friends, their like me only more sociable. I've not hung out with them in so long i guess i haven't been accepted back into the fold so to speak yet. Anyway my question is how can i be more sociable and out-going with my old friends and learn to talk to the nicer, smarter, not dependant on being a metal rock star boys?

A female reader, aunt honesty Ireland +, writes (13 February 2011):

aunt honesty agony auntThere really is only one answer for that and its just be yourself. You havent hung out with these friends in a long time so it is like getting to know them all over again, so just be yourself ask them about themselves try and find things that you all like and maybe arrange a movie night or something similar to that. it may take them time to accept you again but if you just be yourself am sure they will eventually.

As for meeting boys well its the same again really, just try and be as confident as you can and just let the real you shine through. Sorry i cant be more helpful. Goodluck Hunny.
