Apparently they had a very heated argument one night and he said something extremely hurtful and she (in the heat of the moment) struck him. He turned around and hit her right back. Now my stance has always been that I would only leave my husband for two reasons: 1) if he cheated and 2) if he hit me. But because she hit him first I'm conflicted. I know it is still very wrong and he should have walked away or something but I just would like an outside opinion on how bad it is...I've suggested that they go to counseling as they sound like they need to learn how to fight in a constructive and calm manner but apart from that I just didn't know what to say...Any input is welcome! She is an abuser and he was just defending himself. He should have called the police and had her removed from the house and I agree with the questioner, he ahould leave her for striking him.

mmmmm
Well its pretty bad:s We all definately know the differences between males and females!
females are quite more emotional than males and also more "fragile", so she might have been overwhelmed by his words and got really hurt so spontaneously struck him (although a really bad reaction whatever her cause was). anyway she definately didn't beat the hell out of him nor even hurt him, but he of course hurt her with his strike, he should have held the whole situation and maybe left for a while but not hit her back!! But in general they both were wrong!!
And I agree they should go counseling if they really want to fix it you know!
