StudentOfLife agony auntSometime it's best to stop focusing on what is and start focusing on what it could be.

God gave you the ability to dream and the vehicle with which to achieve them. He would never put obstacles that you can't overcome.

Changes bring opportunity. It's not about how you fall down, but how you get up that counts.

Let me leave you with this article:

"

Tough times breed business smarts

Underprivileged youths possess entrepreneurial gifts.

In 1998, Steve Mariotti, Founder of National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, delivered an inspirational speech at the Hillsdale College Shavano Institute for National Leadership seminar in Memphis, Tenn. Here, an excerpt from "Solving the Problem of Poverty":

I know a secret which, if fully understood by our government, business, and community leaders, could have enormous positive implications for the future of our society. Simply put, the secret is this: Children born into poverty have special gifts that prepare them for business formation and wealth creation. They are mentally strong, resilient, and full of chutzpah. They are skeptical of hierarchies and the status quo. They are long-suffering in the face of adversity. They are comfortable with risk and uncertainty. They know how to deal with stress and conflict.

These are the attitudes and abilities that make them ideally suited for breaking out of the cycle of dependency that so often comes with poverty and for getting ahead in the marketplace. In short, poor kids are "street smart," or what we at the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) call "business smart." Precisely because of their poverty-that is, because of their experience surviving in a challenging world-they are able to perceive and pursue fleeting opportunities that others, more content with their lot in life, tend to miss.

What are you going to do now?

A male reader, rcn United States +, writes (29 April 2009):

rcn agony auntThis is a tough world. Often it seems as if the cards are stacked against us. I would believe, even if he has material things, money may be tight. A friend of mine, and his wife have to take food stamps now. He has a good job, but can now only work 40 hours, where he was allowed 20 extra hours overtime. Their monthly bonuses cut, and Christmas bonuses are gone. With the cuts, he's lost over 25K per year.

Keep doing what you're doing, but do it with ambition, strength and hope. You may not have the material items, but you have what is always yours and no one can take it away, and that is who you are. Keep pushing forward and you'll find as long as you do things will work out.
