writes: My current boyfriend is going through a nasty divorce. He also has a child. In the custody papers, she states that I cannot see their child or be anywhere near her when he has her. I live in Pennsylvania, is this even legal? There are no grounds at all for this order.

reader, anonymous, writes (10 May 2007): sadly she can dictate what happens. my bfs ex stopped me from seeing his daughter through a court order but the order only lasted about a year if that. i know its hard to sit on the sidelines from something that makes the person your with so happy but sometimes it is for the best. the court order in my case only lasted a year because the mother felt that i would stop my bf and the child from bonding she was even there everytime he saw his daughter which was not fun for anyone. its upto the court if they agree or not if she has no firm reason as to why you can't see the child the court may ignore her demand or they may grant it as a temporary thing and review it in 3-6 months time. as hard as it is you have to show the mother that you do respect her as a mother and that you would not stand in the way so this situation can't affect you as much if that makes sense
