writes:my boyfriend and i have been together for over a year now. recently we had an argument over several issues in our relationship. he told me that he had no intention on marrying me anytime soon. i now know where i stand but still he will make comments about a baby, when we are old and gray, etc.. i am trying not take any comments he makes about the future seriously. is he trying to just get a reaction out of me? reader, anonymous, writes (9 April 2009): Maybe he wants to tell you that he will be with you for the distant future, but doesn't necessarily want to marry? Anyway, why all the guess-work when you can just as easily ask him? This is what couples need to do - sit and discuss where their relationship is and what you both expect from it. You can save yourself so much heartache and disappointment by not having expectations of him that you shouldn't.
