To say that you are not in love with someone, then say you are in love with them romantically is somewhat odd, reading that left me abit confused too. I would have thought that if you loved someone romantically you would still be madly in love with them. Of course you can love someone in a friendly way, but his terminology suggessts otherwise. Why don't you have a chat with him about this and get him to clarify what he meant.
