I also found it to be detrimental to my losing weight because I was an emotional eater so when they would make comments about my weight I would only end up eating more to comfort myself, and the cycle continues. I was about 30 pounds above my heathly weight, and so I did need to lose the pounds but the bigger issue here is not the weight itself. You can listen to all the dieting tips around, and when/if you lose weight that way you will get a temporaray high when someone notices but the issues of self-contiousness will still be there. You need to confront your Dad privately and explain to him how you feel. your parents of all people should excpet you as you are and make you feel good about yourself, whether your a size 2 or 16. Once I left home and the negative influences of my family I lost 40 pounds and now sit at the lower end of my suggested healthy weight. I workout daily and eat healthy now, but more than that my attitude has changed, and that change was necessary in order to lose the weight and keep it off. There are many skinny girls out there who still feel just as insecure as you may feel and visa versa, by getting to the root of the issue you are much more likely to have success. I wish you all the best, my heart goes out to your situation!

Angzw, the reason why I said two weeks, is that is something achievable to do.. 6 to 18 months is an awfully long time, and many people feel like giving up before they even get started...
Much easier to think of time in two week stages. Lose 4lbs in 2 weeks, if it's easy, then another two weeks and another 4lbs.. by then it get's easier and easier, cause your fitter and your clothes become lose, the water will flush out your skin and the vegetables, fruit and salad will start to work on your hair, nails and complexion. 18months is just too hard... This way your always living healthy for only the next two weeks, and before you know it, it's the only way you know how to behave for a lifetime. This is not about diets and weight reduction, this is about learning to live for health forever.

Go to www.bodybuilding.com. Click on "Transformations". There are tonnes of success stories there. I started writing to one of the women who had the same starting weight as me and had the After pic I most wanted to look like. From looking like a fat preg woman, in 15 months I was on stage in a bikini doing a fitness contest. So if you are going to do this, don't give yourself a few weeks or even a few months. If you really want to change your body you have to stick to it for a minimum 6 to 18 months. It sounds hard but think about what you were doing a year ago today. It really is not such a long time. Remember, sometimes you won't lose much; perhaps you might only lose half a pound or you might lose nothing at all. See that as a win, because you didn't GAIN. Just keep going when you stop losing. It will eventually come off. So watch out for expecting big losses all the time; be realistic. Write to a transformation success and let them motivate you with their experience. All the best.

hahaha.. sorry I laughed.. your family sound just like mine... they say I'm getting round in the front and the back, and they're gonna saddle me up, use me as a horse and sell the car.... lol
But I'm a lot older than you, so it dosen't damage my self image much. Sure I'm a lot bigger than I was, nearly 2 stone bigger.. hahahaha.. but really and truly it isn't that hard to take it off.. you just got to make yourself a target and commit to two weeks hard work.
mmmmmm.. better list it as a pile of tips, that's easiest. Your aim is to loose at least 21b's a week, sounds little but it adds up eventually. Calorie intake for a woman is about 2500kj.. take off 500 daily, and see how it mounts up. Got no problem with you hiding in your tracksuit and staying in your room. Perfect place to do a little exercise with nobody to bother you.. do a little running on the spot, or squats or lift up your legs, dosen't matter what you do, we just got to get that body moving.
1. Drink as much water as you can, this swells up your belly so there is no room for food.
2. Make sure you have a healthy breakfast everyday. Again, it will swell you up, so you don't feel so hungry later. Cut down on the sugar in your cereal, replace with fruits.
3. Portion sizes for meals should be 1/3 meat, 1/3 salad or veg and 1/3 pasta, potatoes or rice... make sure that you have either veg, salad at every meal, they have few calories, and tons of vitamins.
4. Eat 3 times a day.. big breakfast, smaller lunch, and a small dinner.. do not skip meals.. your body think the food runs out, then it stores all the fat up, and they you get fat again as soon as you begin to eat.
5. No fried food, no sugar stuff, no cakes, no chips, dump all that... Learn to use your oven, less fat means more calories saved. Instead of ice-cream and cakes, eat fruit yoghurt.. again.. we is saving calories just like a bank.
6. 30 minutes exercise a day, until your out of breath and sweating.. dosen't matter what exercise you do, you don't need no gymn. Put on some music and dance around your bedroom. Move your bedroom around and fix it up the way you want. Go for a walk, go for a run, go swimming..start jogging, get a skipping rope...
Remember when you were a kid and played outside, well go out and play like that again.. Hopscotch is particular fun, so is running as fast as you can to the nearest tree.. Exercise must be fun if your going to keep it going..
7. Start exercising slowly at first. Exersise 5 days a week, and take two days off. You can choose your rest days.
8. If you fancy something sweet, well eat it and don't worry. If you've banked enough calories through exercise and eating healthy, then it won't really matter.
In two weeks, you'll have lost 41bs or more, and more importantly, it shouldn't be too hard to achieve, and should be something you can do very easily.
Hope this helps... tons of advice is out there on the internet. Your not on a diet, your just learning how to eat healthily and your doing your exercise to give you more energy. In two weeks, you should feel fitter and faster and should be determined to carry on.
Hope this helps, sorry it's so long.
