A few days prior to that, whilst masturbating I noticed the head of my penis felt a lot more sensitive and orgasms were heightened. The skin looks pretty red and a little flaky. The last time I had sex before this was about 3 weeks ago. Has anybody ever expericened this before and is this normal??Thank you

I don't think you should have a problem in the UK, but most USA male docs were routinely circumcised as newborns, have never questioned the need (or lack thereof) for the procedure, and therefore do NOT know how to treat foreskin problems other than cut it off.
I would go so far as to suggest that should you seek medical treatment then you see a female doctor, or ask a male doc his status, just to make sure he does not have an anti-foreskin bias. As previously stated, most US docs are cut AND biased.
As a typical American Baby Boomer male I was circ'd at birth but grew up in a foreskin-friendly neighborhood so I've always known EXACTLY what I'm missing. You have the luxury of enjoying sex (and masturbation) as nature intended, you're one of the relatively few intact males who has developed a slight problem, you CAN be successfully treated and remain intact.

If it is different than what you've experienced in the past then it isn't normal and it is time to see a doctor. It could be many things; however, no one but a medical professional can diagnose and treat you.
Many conditions have overlapping symptoms, so it is pointless to seek a diagnosis online. It could be autoimmune, fungal, bacterial, an allergic reaction or a mite infestation. It could be related to hygiene, excessive or excessively rough masturbation. It could even be a chemical burn from urine or you could have an STI.
When in doubt, see a doctor.

it's possible you have a yeast infection. I would go see a doctor.
