Got a date at my monthly networking meetings!

Question - (7 November 2012) 5 Answers - (Newest, 6 February 2013)
A male United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I go to monthly networking meetings to make new work contacts (prospective clients) and did so this morning. I saw this girl, who was very attractive, she came up to me, I told her what I did, gave her my business card, then she went to talk to other people. I popped to the toilet, said to myself I shouldn't really ask her out in a networking meeting, it will look unprofessional.

I came out, and when she finished talking to someone else, I asked her if she would like to come and have a bite to eat (expecting her to say no). I was quite surprised when she said yes! I brought her a drink at Wetherspoons, she tried to buy it herself, but I wouldn't let her!

On the way to Wetherspoons, she asked me about where I live, I said there were lots of lovely walks; on the way out of Wetherspoons, I said when you come over to (where I live) I'll buy you a meal. She agreed; we haven't set a date yet, but she said she'd email me.

Has anybody else done anything similar?

Anyway. I bit the bullet and decided to ask her over for the rugby match (as we both like rugby, and she plays it.)

She emailed me back to say that her boss says she needs to keep her personal and professional life separate.

Then she added something which she didn't need to add - her personal time is at weekends when she spends time in London with her girlfriend!

Now, she doesn't contact me at all - shall I get in contact? She may have thought I was coming on strong!

We're going to a fundraising event tonight at 7 at a posh club! She is looking forward to seeing me; should I let her make a move if she is going to? (Or maybe I could ask her to give me a lift from the nearest station as I don't drive!)

This might be the wrong question, but do you think because I asked her out for a bite to eat she took it as a date or just a meeting.

(If she'd got a boyfriend, she'd never have agreed to come for a meal.) Maybe she thinks thats not a date, but she might have cottoned on a bit!

She was very trusting coming out with me just like that!

Nothing inappropriate here. I wouldn't mix business and pleasure, but that's easy to fix. Just don't do business with her. :)
