Help!!! Am I imagining it or does he like me?

I'm 15 and am now in my last year of high school. Last year a new guy transferred from a different school (lets call him L). He was expelled from his last school and messed about alot last year. Every time I've spoken to him he has been caring. But at the same time he often tries to wind me up. Although he barely speaks to me I often find him looking at me in class and when he makes a joke he often looks at me to see if I find it funny. A couple of times our eyes have met and he holds my gaze, I always seem to be the one to look away.
