the guy was nervous. Not such a bad thing, at least it is a sign he has emotions and is using them rather than the part of his brain that drives him to want to have sex.
Be gentle with him, take things slowly and make him feel secure. You could have a really nice boyfriend there.
You could even mention it to him and get him to talk about it. If you are close enough you should be able to bring something like this up - it'll make you feel closer, that's for sure.
