I've been seeing this guy for 2 months and after a month of being together he asked me to spend New Year with him. The plan was to get ready together, go to his best friend's gathering (there were about 6 of his best friends there) then go to a pre-paid club night (worth £20). He took 2 days off from work for the occassion and had been working non-stop for 6 weeks during Christmas and was really excited about New Year. I was encouraging his excitement and telling him how fun it would be etc. However, on the night after getting ready I drank too much and by the time we got to his friend's house I has my head down the toilet puking for 2 hours (and missed the bells) then later was rejected from the club (and another one later) for being too drunk. He was very angry and letdown, however the next day he said although it annoyed him that I ruined New Year for him he'd accept it but I had to make it up to him. I feel so guilty and don't know how to make it up to him. Please give me some suggestions on how to make it up to him. Thanks.

Hi

Happy new year!

I am sure a lot of us are feeling the same as you right now and saying sorry...me two .....Expectations! we all have them, but the bottom line is we get a little bit carried away with the wine and bobs your uncle its a year later..and the only bells ringing are in your head. Don't be so hard on yourself your boyfriend will get over it. If its any conciliation i too have had to explain where i was at the turn of 2008... be happy and look back with a light heart and just see the funny side you naughty girl.....

Make it up in the way you know best but remember not too take things too serious....it could have been worse, it could have been three clubs you were ejected from. Next party, pace yourself .....and i will do the same. CHEERS!

Oh dear. You really messed up there.

You need to promise that you will never drink so much again. It's not healthy and as you have discovered, it's just not a good idea.

Why not take him out on a majorly fun night out next weekend. Go to a nice restaurant and then some really great clubs and spoil him rotten. You'll have to pay for it since you cost him his club tickets, but I think you owe him that much.

Mostly you just need to let him know you have learned your limits alcohol wise and will not mix drinks / do shots / drink such a large amount again.

Good Luck!! xx

Firstly, we all make mistakes. Learn from them. Grow, and move on, and don't make the same mistakes again.

Secondly, refund him the money he shelled out for New Years. That's the very least you should do, and don't let him refuse to take the money. If he refuses, leave the money at his house, in his car, etc., so he knows you're sincere and serious about making it up to him. (Some women, you might be surprised to learn, would faintly offer the refund, making it appear ungentmanly for him to accept "the offer" - don't fool yourself, because you won't fool him, or anyone else.) Borrow from your Mum if you have, and work it off. Explain why to you Mum. I bet she'll be proud of you if she's raising you right. No excuses.

Thirdly, make him a good homemade dinner with effort. And don't forget the dessert:)
