 although alcohol does make people more amorous in general, i have found it also is like that harry potter loose lips tonic.
when people are drunk, sure they hook up more than general. but they also say things they don't mean to say, spill secrets, reveal innermost thoughts...
i don't know the background of your friendship, so i couldn't say for sure. my guess, though, is it was a mixture of his alcohol induced loving feeling and feelings for you.
alcohol usually enhances feelings. if you are sad and you get drunk, chances are you are a sobbing mess. you have a crush and you get drunk... you might just profess love?
