A female United States age 26-29, anonymous writes:

Okay me and this highchool football player (Ryan) have been friends since school started. Suddenly we started texting and talking. He eventually confessed to liking me. I obviously like him too, but after a while his mood changed and he acts diffrent with me. I texted him saying how i specifically felt and he replied "first of all I just said I like you. I didn't say we were gonna go out or I didn't ask you if you wanted to start talking. So you got your hopes up for nothing."....when i see him in school now im gonna wear the BIGGEST smile, and show all my pride. But inside im hurting, what should i do please help!?

A male reader, cmsl Canada +, writes (9 November 2010):

cmsl agony auntThe thing is with jerks like that is that they aren't the smartest people. I'm not saying hes a dumbass, im just saying that people like that don't know how to handle situations such as yours and resort to rudeness;so thier following actions aren't very smart and can make a bad situation 10 times worse. Its actually somewhat of a defense mechanism and alot of the time the person whos doing it doesn't even know their doing it. Now that may not be the case with him, he may just be a jerk but either way its his loss.
