I recommend a book written by M Scott Peck, The Road Less Traveled. It is an excellent book about what love is and what love isn't.
This guy isn't worth your time, three years is long enough to waste on a a guy who doesn't know what he wants and doesn't understand himself and doesn't know what love actually is.

 Im not in the best of moods today as I have just split with my partner but here goes...men who don't know what they want arn't worth getting into a relationship with. Be friends, keep it platonic without sexual contact and wait and see if hes willing to commit...Don't let him mess you around, nobody deserves that.
