He is with a new girl but still wants to be with me. He is scared I will hurt him again.

I was with my ex for over 3 years and we were engaged and living together. I was going through a really hard time and went of the rails a bit and ended the relationship for no apparent reason. Afterwards it was like i completely forgot he existed and went out having fun all the time and meeting new people. It was only a few months ago it hit home and id relised what id done. We got back in touch and he told me that he still loved me and would do anythink to get me back, then next thing he was in a relationship with someone that he had been seein for a while. He is now living with her but has been meeting up with me behind her back and on a few occasions we have slept together. Weve been talking loads about getting back together but hes said hes scared incase i do the same thing again and to give it time so he knows that it is him that i want. But the other day he admitted that he wanted to end it with her and get back with me but just doesnt have the guts to do it as she hasnt done anythink wrong. Im scared that the longer this goes on the more he will fall for her, which iv told him and he tryed reasurring me by saying that they had already been together for ages and he hadent. I just really dont no what to do anymore i love him so much can someone please help me asap think im meeting him again tomorro :)
