So me being tired of just texting and talking asked him where he thought this was going and got all defensive saying were just having a laugh at the moment but who knows about the future. After falling out for a bit hes back to talking to me again , and he's still being all lovey dovey with me. Sm i just getting played?

Yes you are being played. There are a million other guys who won't treat you so badly, so find one of them instead. Forget this guy, he's just using you.

If I were you I'd move on and forget about this guy, he sounds like a bit of a loser, he should either make up his mind on what he wants of just go away.
He might consider this a bit of fun but you're not getting any enjoyment from it.
