A female reader, abbeymom Canada +, writes (6 September 2008):

abbeymom agony auntOkay so to be clear you are worried he did those things just because you are friends and that's all he wants?

I'm going to say he likes you. Those physical gestures are key to liking someone, especially playing with their hair and holding their hand. And if he says he doesn't like you then he's either playing games, or not sure if he wants to take that step beyond your friendship.

Now that is the question you should ask yourself as well. Not that you can't love someone who is your friend. But things WILL change if you move beyond the "Just friends" zone.

If you like him that much. Tell him. Don't play games. Don't wait for him to figure it out. I know that's a scary thought but tell him. Tell him I like you more than a friend and want to know how you feel about that?

Only when you get your answer will you feel better even if it's not the answer you want because you won't be worried anymore wondering what he's thinking. And it's good practice to be upfront with someone. Let's you know you can handle the outcome and still come out of it okay.

Good luck!
