reader, anonymous, writes (28 December 2006): A lot of people are attracted to those that hurt them, because their desire for someone who gives them little acts like the little bits of food for the extremely hungry. He is the one most convenient to you by mentality, and you cannot let go because the little he does for you gives you hope that he may one day be more than just this.
How can you get out of this? You can't.
As harsh as that seems, one of the possible ways you can get out of this cycle is be strong from the inside out. Like I said elsewhere - “Build your internals first, then go after the things you desire later.” However, like I said, things like this is difficult for people like you. If you have to ask how you can get out of this problem, then your chances of getting out in the first place is slim.
What you need Ms. Anon are some really great friends who can help you. It's easy to tell you to stop being with such a bastard, and that you deserve better, but actually doing it is a totally different thing.
Only you can control yourself. The car is on 5th gear, there's a bottle under the brake pedal, he's stepping on the gas pedal. You're going to drive off the cliff into the sea. You willing to lose yourself to his idiocy, or are you going to jump out the window, possibly getting a bit hurt, but definitely not drown and die with that asshole?
