Initially, he seemed nice and genuine but as I spent more time with him, I learnt that he has a girlfriend and isn't bothered about having another. This made me look at him in a whole different light because it is something I don't believe in, although I have no intention of him becoming my boyfriend. However, I have remained friends with him as I enjoy his company and his assistance with my course! Is it right to remain friends?? Please advice.

You can be friends but make sure nothing funny happens between the two of you. He doesn't seem the smartest of people when it comes to relationships.
I'm not saying you should but if you know his girlfriend it might be a good idea to tell her what he's been saying and to be careful.
