Then let the resentment grow until he couldn't take it anymore and dumped me. Why do dumpers do this? Its not my fault my ex couldn't communicate if he's life was dependant on it.

Some people are just not good communicators. I know my wife tells me that i am like this, sometimes, too.
Something in our personalities. I don't like to feel like i'm constantly harping on someone, complaining about every little thing, so I try to hold it in. I just don't like to feel like i'm a whiner, ya know?
It took me a VERY long time to understand that not communicating with my partners about things that bothered me AT ALL was actually hurting the relationship as much as if i complained TOO much.
It is unfortunate, and you must realize it's not your fault. It stinks, i know.
With your next partner, just make sure that you communicate to them the importance to you that you talk about what bothers you.
