He doesn't want to take me to his family gathering; is he embarassed by me or not really committed?

A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I live with this guy and we've been together over three years. His family has a reunion every few years and the last one happened right after we started dating so I wasn't invited, but he said i would go to the next one. There is another one coming up and his mother invited it, but he declined it without asking me! His excuse was that it's not a event for girlfriends, but I'm worried that he doesn't think I'm ready or isn't ready himself. I fear he is embarrassed by me or will never be ready to completely commit. How would you guys feel?

I agree with Midge. It’s very easy to assume that you are the problem, when you may be very far from the truth. Only way to know is to ask him.

Midge agony auntActually, I was in a very similar situation with my current boyfriend. It turns out he wasnt embarresed by me, but by his family.

Ask his straight out what the problem is and if he is embarresed by them or you. You may be surprised at the answer!
