A male reader, Sandman United States +, writes (10 August 2008):

Sandman agony auntIf your boyfriend entered you with this penis, then no, you are not still a virgin.

Hymen's are notoriously popular in our culture to signify purity and virginity - being untouched by the man. However, it is well known that a small percentage of women are born without hymens and other women tear their hymens engaging in sports activities and things like horse back riding.

So while the hymen can equate to virginity, not having one doesn't mean that you are NOT a virgin. But, having a penis enter into you DOES mean that you are no longer a virgin - regardless of noticeable hymen tearing (cherry popping) or not.

Some women take multiple engagements of sexual intercourse to completely tear the hymen (if one is present). And some women will never have noticeable bleeding to signify they have lost their virginity.

And at 15 (at the most according to your profile) I hope you have been properly educated on the issues of sex and sexuality and understand the risks associated with having sex at a young age.

Hope this helps.
