A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hello. I need advice on this guy I like. We met back in July at church, and have been in contact ever since. I don't see him very much because he lives in a different state. Anyway, I asked him to prom and he said yes. So he prom was 3 nights ago. On the way there he would hold my hand whenever we were at a stoplight. Then when we got there he held my hand. But when prom actually started, he would barely dance with me. It's like he danced with everyone EXCEPT me it seemed like. And for the most part when he did dance with me he would ask someone else to join in. The only time it was just the two of us were the slow songs, and one fast song. It started pissing me off that he wouldn't dance with me so I went and sat down, and a few minutes later he came over and asked what was wrong. I said it was nothing and he just sat there and held my hand. Then another slow song came on so we went and danced, and he kissed me half way through it. We left shortly after b/c we were going to hang out at a friends house, and my friend that was riding with in the car with us said that me and my date should actually date, then he said "You know I live in a different state right?" and she said yeah, and he said that he would think about it. As the night went on he would kiss me and hold my hand like he had been doing. When he was in a different room my friend told me that he text her when we were in the car saying "Lola (which is me) is my best friend. I love her to death." I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. Anyway if he does like me, then why would he say that, and if he doesn't why does he keep kissing me? Sorry if it's too long, but any help will be appreciated.

mezzo_soprano_reader agony auntAlright... So this guy lives in another state. He probably did all that because he might have thought it would take a long while before he even got the CHANCE to try any of that again. And you guys are FRIENDS, something sacred that takes a long time to heal if it's ever damaged... He might have wanted to keep you guys friends and was afraid of losing you. All of these are just possible reasons, but... you might want to talk to him yourself and ask him, "Hey, tell me straight up what you want, whether you like me, or where do we go from here?" It stinks that I'm telling you this, but if he's not telling you, you're not asking nearly enough. Take the initiative, because waiting around is rather pointless.
