A female , anonymous writes:

We fell in love in February and we were really crazy about each other but I had issues due to things in his past including his late wifes suicide which I found difficult to come to terms with, especially staying in the same house. I couldnt cope and ended the relationship after just 3 months but was still deeply in love, hoping he would perhaps discuss these things with me. We tried to get back together but each time one of us blew it before anything further. He told me to cut some rope, so I started dating someone else who is nice but I am not in love with him.He has kept in touch telling me he likes to reminice often and think about the good times we had. We met a month ago for lunch and had a really nice time, we both said we still loved each other. He has made changes too even buying a new place, but he was shocked I had been dating someone else - it has been 6 months though. I dont understand though as he hasnt contacted me since although I have sent him emails and messages. Now I feel so hurt. I dont know what I have done wrong this time. He seems to come in and out of my life and raises my hopes, I cant get over him.

A female reader, AngelofLove United Kingdom +, writes (6 December 2006):

AngelofLove agony auntHe cannot expect you to wait for him forever. Everyone grieves differently and some people take years to recover.

Perhaps when you next get together, as well as remembering the good times, you can discuss your future together if any in more depth.

Otherwise you may need to cut the rope altogether and move on.

If you are dating someone you do not love, please try not to raise their hopes either as this person may be expecting relationship to go somewhere.

Good luck whatever you decide to do.xxx
