You really shouldn't have to convince him, he should be there for you even if you don't live together anymore.
I would get in contact with your dad, and tell him you want to meet up and explain how your feeling. Do you still speak to him? if not maybe a letter would be better.
It could be that he's missing you too, you don't give too may details so I don't know why he had to make that choice if it's because you and his wife didn't get on then surely you and your dad could spend some time alone together.
As I said I don't know the in's and out's of this situation, but I don't know why your dad chose his wife over you.
