Some people (both male and female) have some pretty set notions of what they "think" happens the first time a female virgin has sex - pain, blood, shyness, scared... etc.
So my guess us that your BF didn't really believe you were a virgin - maybe because you didn't fit the "standard virgin" mold in his head.
