I am currently in a long distant relationship with my boyfriend of 2 years, he have been together all most every day and now he has joined the air force and he is 5 hours away from me in tech school .. We can text , video chat , phone call .... However when we do any of that stuff it's silence... Quiet no one is talking , we do the I love you , I miss you obviously stuff but I want deep meaningful conversations .... so my question is .. How do we fix our communication? he says he's willing to work at it but never knows what to say ... I want to fix this before he goes off to japan in three months.

A male reader, Kenj United Kingdom +, writes (23 March 2010):

Kenj agony auntJust ask him what hes thinking about, that should strike up some conversation. Be prepared he may ask you the same, be honest with him.

Theres loads of other subjects to talk about, even if they are silly ones. Talk about yourself, what youve been up to, ask him whats he been doing. Talk about the weather it really does not have to be a serious topic.

You dont have to talk all the time, conversation should be two way and flow natural. Silence is good sometimes too.
