I went to some dance lessons as a child, but they were just fun classes, not really professional. I'd like to try ballroom dancing, as my grandparents and my father used to be very good at that, so it's made me interested in it. I know this is a lot different to that, but i'd even like to try pole dancing too!! The thing is, i have low self esteem. I don't see myself as being sexy, so i'm not sure if i would be able to do that kind of dancing. But, i think that it is fascinating, and i like the challenge of learning that kind of dancing, as it looks difficult, but it also looks like it could be fun ! Has anyone here ever done that kind of dancing before? I know you can take private pole dancing lessons too, and at a beginner's level, which might be better for me. I might also consider chair dancing, and i've heard of people dancing with hoops too. Not sure about lap dancing though! I'm not a judgemental person, so i don't see it as sleazy, like some people would. I would even like to have a job doing that kind of dancing, or teaching it, if i get good at it.What do you think?

It is SO much fun, and I have learned self-confidence and acceptance of my body that I never had before. It's also a hell of a workout and builds upper body strength like you wouldn't believe. I sometimes feel like I was born with two left feet, so if you'd told me four months ago that I'd be able to invert (go upside down) on a pole I'd never have believed it.
Yes, you will get bruises, although that gets better with time. Be prepared to wear pants around after your first few lessons so people don't think you're in an abusive relationship or something. Classes here in the States are somewhat expensive (25-40$ per class depending on the studio; no idea what rates are in the UK), but that's the only possible down side I can see. If this is something you want to try, I say go for it! I highly doubt you'll regret it :)

I have a friend who does pole dancing classes. It's physically demanding and she's always covered in bruises from the moves but she loves it! Another friend of mine did ballroom for years and won all kinds of trophys. It's great exercise and will probably improve your confidence too. I think you should go for it!

Doesn't matter what dancing you do, it's all fun. If you want to try lapdancing go for it. You could always buy a pole for your bedroom, to practise at home on, also you may be able to buy a cd to watch and learn. I used to do country dancing at school and loved it. There's dancing classes all over the place, beginners as well. go for it!
