I am gay and in my 20s but my boyfriend is in his 40s and I am starting to feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall trying to get even a modest amount of interest.

 Each person, male or female, has different sex drive levels. There are many factors affecting it, both internal (genetics) as well as external (physical and non-physical environment).
When I was in my late 20s, I dated a guy 3 years younger than me whose sex drive was pretty much non-existent (once every few months?). Apparently both his parents were similar (as they get older, they developed more into room mates rather than lovers). Recently, I was in a relationship with a 53 y.o. whose sex drive (and stamina) is awesome. With this 53 y.o, we had sex on a daily basis on weekdays and "multi-sessions" on weekends LOL. No drugs nor enhancements were involved.
All you need as a first step is to look at how it has been for you since you were a teenager I guess. For some males it peaks at 30s-40s, for others it is a sloow gradual decrease.
Then, if you wanted to increase your drive in a safe manner, consultations with your doctor, plus a good balanced natural diet and healthy routine exercises I am sure would help.

 In my opinion, the sex drive should remain quite healthy through the 40s and 50s - even through the 60s. Maybe not quite as robust as in the 20s and 30s, but still plenty enthusiastic. But certain medical and potential psychological conditions can affect both ability and desire, such as blood pressure and other medications, and on the psyche side, depression for one.

reader, anonymous, writes (24 February 2009): There is no "should". If he is healthy and happy with himself and how much sex he has, then there is no problem. It gets complicated when there are differing sex drives in couples, but then you try to work around that by making compromises to meet somewhere in the middle. Some people are happy with sex very rarely or go for years without it. Some people reach their later years (50, 60 and onwards) and slow down, or move into a more spiritual phase of their lives, get divorced, focus on children or careers etc. Or some people shag everyday, a couple of times :)
Whatever each individual is happy with, like the previous poster said!
