writes:A little background of my situation. I have been working in China for over eight months now and during this period I've not strongly pursued any girls. Most of my friends here are girls and they are simply that believe it or not.There is one girl I like that I only get to see for a short time a few days of the week. It's been made quite obvious that I like her through others, though it first started out as a joke. She's a very kind girl, I'm very attracted to her character, smile and laugh. The problem is that she has a boyfriend whom is supposedly a bad guy and has cheated on her in the past. I'm not sure what to make of the situation because she has said I'm handsome, cute and openly said she likes my traits etc, but I believe it to be in a kind way and not actually liking me. We can't communicate well on a conversational level, though we both have a limited knowledge of each others native languages.My intentions are good with this girl and I plan to stay here long term. If I end up with a girlfriend here, I want it to be her. Am I looking too hard into what only is a potential friendship? I'm close friends with some of her coworkers, but we are more shy towards each other because of language.

Since you want to stay long term the suggestion below would be a very good one. Ask her if she wants to help you learn Chinese.

reader, anonymous, writes (26 April 2012): what i would suggest you is you should talk more to her and break the ice first. Dont get into a rush but start with some daily random things. Maybe learning chinese from her is a good excuse for you to talk to her! so that she can get to know you more and hence increase the chance of you two. Dont let the language barrier stop you from getting love. hope this helps!good luck!
