My boyfriend of eight months who did the I love you and your perfect speech then finished with me... contacted me five days later asking how I was and then said miss you. How shitty is that why do you think he said that. Is it sympathy or worming his way back in. Now even more upset and confused. Why if he ended it which I accepted gracefully and have not contacted him once, did he need to do that ? Why not just let me be ?

This guy has some issues he needs to work out himself.
Without knowing what goes through his mind.
There are two options:
Either he has a big problem and is not comfortable discussing it with you so he is running away.
Or he feels lonely and want company.
Regardless, this is not fair on you. Talk to him and ask him to make up his mind for both your sakes.
Good luck

Because he's as distraught as you and probably can't make up his mind. Sometimes we do things in the spur of the moment. Thus, maybe he had afterthoughts and really didn't want to break up with you. But, that's probably only something you guys can find out by talking a bit more ... he can still talk to you after you guys break up, can't he?
